lvm2 support needed for both 2.4 and 2.6 kernels
It is time for knoppix to support lvm2. It is crucial for many systems and the lack of lvm2 support is a glaring hole in rescue disk functionality of knoppix. It would be trivial to implement. Currently dev-mapper is active in kernel 2.6, and the same can be done for 2.4. Currently, /dev/mapper is a link to the live-cd, it should be copied over to /dev instead of linked as lvm needs to write to that directory (when 'vgchange -ay'). The only thing left is to install lvm2 which takes up little space as it is a small file.

I agree! Fedora will install root to a LVM volume as default unless you manually build the partitions. This shortcoming makes Knoppix useless as a method for rescue, and I don't see LVM going away anytime soon.
If it is truly that simple, then it should be addressed soon.

One more vote from me for LVM2 support.
I use Knoppix regularly, mainly as a rescue system. As most Linux systems in my environment have all file systems on LVM volumes, I usually remaster every second or third Knoppix release to add two packages: lvm2 and lvm-common.
Those two packages need 873 kB space, which is very little compared to the big gain.
Or do miss a perfectly good reason for not having LVM support on the CD/DVD?

DeSt

pclinuxos and ubuntu both support lvm2
For the frustrated, both pclinuxos and ubuntu support lvm2.

Add me to the count.
Oddly enough, knoppix was able to map the raid5 subarray, but it failed to map the dev/mapper raid1 boot array.
The ubuntu live cd worked well for me.
