Here it is, the legendary CMD SuperCPU for the Commodore 64.
If you are here reading this you know what this is. I\'m including a little bit of high-level info. The SCPU transforms your C64 from a 1Mhz machine into a 20Mhz machine. This remarkable device also has a cartridge pass-through, which I used for a 2MB REU cartridge (not included).
This SCPU, as you can see from the sticker in the photo, is a v1. What this means is the DOS chip that CMD supplied back in the day had a couple of odd bugs. I only experienced these bugs when using the new C64OS, by Gregory Nacu. The main errors were when using the RAM expansion cartridge. As a result, I paid to have an officially licensed CMD DOS chip replacement upgrade. The SCPU you see here now runs DOS 2.04, which is the highest CMD ever made for the SCPU. With this chip, the errors I previously encountered disappeared. Bottom line: you want this SCPU like it is now, not how it was originally as a v1 model. This is chef\'s kiss perfect.
The SCPU does not require power. Think of it as a gigantic cartridge. It also does not require any modifications to the interior of your C64.
Note: you can use this device with a C128, but only in C64 mode. In fact, this is kind of cool. If you have the SCPU plugged into your C128 and it is active, the C128 will auto-boot into C64 mode when you turn on the machine. No more pressing the C= key on the keyboard. If you want to boot into C128 mode, simply flip the switch on top to disable the device before powering up. No need to remove the SCPU from the computer - ever! CMD kind of thought of everything.
The SCPU of course also comes equipped with JiffyDOS - something many of us simply can\'t live without. No need to add JD to your computer! But there\'s a switch to disable that, too, whenever you need to run a program that has a conflict.
Included:- SCPU64 as seen in the photos- SuperCPU Utilities: a 3.5\" disk I designed and created and put CMD\'s handy tools on (you rarely need these but it is nice to have). This disk, which is HD format, is intended to be used with CMD FD floppy drives like the FD-2000 or FD-4000. If you need these utilities on a 5.25\" disk the files can be easily found online.- Double-boxed- UPDATE: I\'ve added the original (buggy from the factory) DOS v1.32 chip with the listing. It should go with the thing from whence it came. --EKH
