Amiga 3000 - Fully Restored and Upgraded - Early Model with Soft Kickstart ROMs

This Amiga 3000 is an early model featuring soft Kickstart ROMs, allowing you to boot multiple Kickstart versions directly from the hard drive. You can choose between 1.3, 2.x, or even 3.x (currently configured for 3.x), making it versatile for running older software.

As an Electrical Engineer, I’ve meticulously cleaned, restored and upgraded this system to ensure it performs reliably. Everything was disassembled and the mother board removed to clean everything and to facilitate proper repairs. You can see in the last set of photos the motherboard removed and the restoration steps.

Restoration Details:

  • Battery Replacement: The original battery had leaked. I neutralized all battery acid, removed corrosion, and replaced it with a safe coin cell mount about four years ago.
  • Chip Memory Repair: Half of the original chip memory was defective. I replaced the faulty chips, so now it has full chip memory and maximum fast RAM capacity.
  • Trace Repair: There are a few spots that were damaged by the acid from the battery, and I bodged them on the underside of the motherboard.

Note on the Flicker Fixer:
The VGA port works perfectly with interlaced video (All the other ports work 100% for video). However, switching to the frame-buffered non-interlaced mode produces sparkles in the video and improper de-interlacing. After research, this appears to be caused by the video buffer RAM (Amber Circuit) in the flicker fixer, which is rare and difficult to source parts for. I’ve left this as-is since I primarily use RGB CRTs rather than LCDs with this system.

Upgrades:

  • 2MB Chip Memory
  • 16MB Fast Memory
  • SCSI2SD Emulator: Rabbit Hole Computing SCSI Emulator for modern storage.
  • Modern RTG Card: GBAPII++ Zorro card (supports 1280x1024 resolution via VGA monitor; uses Picasso drivers).
  • Vintage Ariadne Zorro Ethernet Card (untested).
  • Custom Gotek Bracket: Includes Gotek drive with FlashFloppy firmware.

What Is Not Floppy Drive

  • USB Flash Drive
  • Important Notes:
This is a 30-year-old system and is being sold as-is with no returns. While it has been restored and upgraded, there are no guarantees of future performance, and it may fail at any moment due to its age.

I really don't want to sell this system, its my dream Amiga. This is not a quick flip but a system I put a lot of hours into fixing and restoring. Upgrades are easily $1000 in value.

This will be very well packaged, insured and shipped in a track able manner. The system is also very heavy being nearly all steel.
