EZRaid DupliDisk 4 (DD4) hardware RAID device for two 2.5" drives:
$100.00
This is a DupliDisk 4 (DD4) RAID controller made by EzRAID, formerly ARCO. In a 3.5" form factor, it contains the RAID controller circuit AND space for TWO 2.5" drives to be mounted inside it (no hard drives are included here). All three interfaces (two to drives + one to computer) are SATA, and the computer (motherboard) has no idea that it's even talking to two drives, and the OS certainly doesn't. Thus NO DRIVERS are needed and it works with any operating system. They do have drivers for some OS's for monitoring purposes, but you don't need them to get the redundancy functionality. It has a front panel with status LEDs and a mute button for the alert buzzer (if one of the drives fail).
I used the older ARCO products for years and they worked well. I bought this one (in 2011, I think) intending to use it in a new PC with SATA drives, but never got around to it. So it has sat unused since then, in the original packaging and climate controlled. So it should be good as new, albeit "new" 14-year old tech :)
EzRAID is still around, and if you google for the product name you can find their website where they provide more details. (can't link, violates policy)
This sale is for everything that came in the original box, including:- the DD4 device (*no* 2.5" drives!)- manual- CDROM with drivers and utilities- a serial cable to connect a PC to the board
According to their product listing, the CDROM includes:- a Windows XP/2000/2003/Vista/Win7 management utility- a mirroring utility for non-Windows systems
I don't recall which I used when I was trying it out, but you can literally run the utility on *another* computer and then connect to this RAID controller via serial cable to admin it, for example swapping out a drive and re-mirroring. You can run the Windows utility on the host computer and do it all internally, but I was usually running weird OS's that didn't have any drivers or utility available.
This is NOT hot-swap RAID! But if you have a single 3.5" bay and no RAID control built into your motherboard, this could solve it for you.
This is priced to move, with a $50 start, and buy it now at $100. From that website mentioned above, it looks like they still sell this for $300, although it might be a zombie website. In 2025 there are waaay better solutions for this, but maybe you have a special requirement that calls for this, such as replacing failed hardware.
