Vintage 1987 Intel Above Board Plus ISA memory expansion card & 128KB RAM IBM AT:
$75.00

Intel Above Board Plus w/ 512KB RAM installed (18 x 4256-15 chips) Here is an Intel Above Board Plus, manufactured in late 1987. This is a 16-bit ISA memory card designed for an IBM AT, but there is an empty socket for a chip which allows this card to be used as 8-bit ISA memory expansion, for an IBM PC, XT or compatible. The beauty of this card is that, unlike earlier Intel Above Boards, there are no dip switches. A software utility (SETBOARD.EXE) allows RAM to be configured as conventional, expanded memory (EMS) or extended memory.
This particular card comes with the first two rows of nine sockets filled with 256 kilobit chips for 512KB total. I have used this card many times in my IBM AT testbed system with 512KB on its motherboard. It always counts up to 640K with this card installed. It will arrive configured for adding 128KB of conventional memory on top of a motherboard with 16-bit ISA slots and 512KB installed. The extra 384KB can be used for video, a copy of a BIOS, a small RAMdisk, or a page frame for expanded memory above 1MB.
In addition to the 18 populated sockets, there are 54 empty sockets. If each one is filled with a 256 kilobit chip, the board will have 2MB of RAM. There are connectors at the upper left for a daughter card (which I do not have) providing 72 more of these sockets for another 2MB.

The buyer will receive only the exact card and chips pictured here. I do not have any software for it.

I offer a 30 day return privilege and free shipping to any U.S. zip code.
