Vintage Asus TUSC minitower, Tualatin Celeron 1.1 GHz, 40GB HD, Windows 98 SE:
$100.00

Here is a system Asus sold as a home PC 22 years ago. This month I wiped and tested the hard drive, replaced the battery, and reinstalled WIndows 98 with most of the drivers. It is now ready to install your favorite applications, from floppy diskette, CD, or from a USB flash drive. However, I could not find drivers for the onboard audio, for the AMR modem, or for the onboard ethernet.Asus uses a small minitower case for this system. With a CD ROM, floppy drive and hard drive installed there is only one exposed 5.25" hard drive bay free. This is a micro ATX style case, with a 145W power supply. The heart of the system is an Asus TUSC with an SIS 630 chipset. It supports all socket 370 Celeron or Pentium III CPUs with front side bus speeds of 66, 100 or 133 MHz, up to a 1.4 GHz Pentium III. I include a 1.1 GHz Intel Celeron processor with a 100 MHz FSB and 256KB cache. There are two 168-pin sockets for SDRAM. One has a 256MB DIMM installed. Onboard video uses 16MB of this RAM, leaving 240MB available for Windows 98SE. Maximum RAM is 1GB.The motherboard includes connectors for two PS/2 ports, two USB 1.1 ports, a parallel port, a DB9 serial port, RJ45 connector for 10/100 ethernet, audio connectors and a MIDI/joystick port. There are two PCI slots, but one is filled with a 56K AMR modem. There is still one free PCI expansion slot. The original 1.44MB floppy drive, 40GB hard drive and Asus 52x IDE CD ROM are still working as designed. After a few hours, I gave up looking for drivers to get the AMR modem, the onboard ethernet and the onboard sound working. I was able to find SiS 630 drivers for AGP graphics, the MIDI/joystick port, USB storage, and the IDE host adapter. I am happy to answer any questions about this system before your purchase. You will receive the exact tower case and internal components pictured here. I do not include any keyboard, monitor, power cord, or softwareI do offer a 30 day return privilege but return shipping is at the buyer's expense. Shipping charges are calculated by with no handling fee. Local pickup in zip code 60438 is free.
