This is hard to part with, more so than anything I have sold on in 25 years. This is a fully working, clean and attractive Atari 800 that got me into computing at an early age. The $1000 price tag that my Dad really supported was worth every penny. He even made an attempt himself to learn Basic. But this Atari mainly was my platform for learning 6502 assembly coding as well as C and maybe some attempts at cracking the copy protection schemes on games. Maybe.
I’ve booted it up with a few cartridge games, Atari DOS with a Percom floppy drive (on sale separately), and a few disk-based games (including SAM talking poker). So the audio chip certainly works. Included are the 3 cartridges shown: Basic, Star Raiders, Missile Command.
One note about the RAM and ROM cards under the hood. Back in the day I had a mezzanine card sitting on the ROM card to provide 80 column text. Facilitating that meant removing the card cases. There’s no impact on the computer working. And shielding is provided by the metal housing outside those cards, not the plastic packaging. So that’s the story. It also allows one to see the old electronics boards.
I debated making a video demonstration of everything working, but I’ll ask instead that you consider my selling record here as perfect. I sell things that are nice enough to be given as gifts and that I would be happy to receive myself. If this somehow arrived non-functional, would mandate a refund anyway and I would shred my seller’s rating.
Please let me know if you have questions. Thanks for having a look.
