Vintage IBM Aptiva 2174 - 882 Tower Desktop powers up:
This listing is for an IBM Aptiva computer model 2174 - 882 With a Maxtor model 2B020H1 20 gig hard drive. two 256mb memory sticks.
Computer turns on then gives the following beeps: 2 quick short beeps followed by 8 beeps, a 2 second pause, then 2 beeps, a 1 second pause, then1 beep. After the series of beeps the computer continues to run with no activity from the hard drive and no video. The PS2 keyboard and mouse I used for testing seem tobe recognized as the LEDs on the keyboard and the red laser on the mouse light up momentarily. Holding down the power button for 5 seconds shuts down the computer. It was working when it went into storage but now has this issue. The processor seems to be running as it becomes slightly warm.
The hard drive does seem to be running as well. When the unit is powered on the optical disk drives can be opened and closed.
cards in PCI slots include: Original IBM video card, original IBM Vortex2 audio card, dial up modem, and a 3com eithernet card.
The optical drives are: Sony CRX215E5 CD recordable / Rewritable drive date: 2004 and a Toshiba / Samsung TS-H492 CD-RW / DVD drive date: 2008
Please note that I cannot guaranty the integrity of any of these disks or the computer because of age.We must sell all items AS-IS. Please see all the pictures as they are a part of the description. The outer case is in very good condition withno noticeable dings or dents. However, the latch in the back is not functioning or missing so the case will slide close but cannot lock into place. Thanks for being here and please feel free to ask any questions you may have.
