ESTATE FIND! You know the saying "they don't make 'em like they used to?"...well, in this case that is a *GOOD THING* as this early IBM beast weighs about 22 pounds! I guess lugging this around would free up your gym time though ;-)
You are offerding on a vintage laptop computer, IBM Model #5140, with a built-in printer plus power supply/adapter, 23 discs, disc cases, Prudential Insurance laptop bag & a vintage IBM Catalog from 1988. I hooked it up to test it, and the laptop works as designed...it booted up quickly and both drives work correctly...I even tested a DOS command. The printer fired right up when I turned it on, but I did not try printing to test it (the ink has likely long dried up). However, I imagine it functions as designed as well, since the computer works and everything appears well cared for.
This comes in a customized Prudential Insurance bag - you know - the "get a piece of the rock" company. Most of the discs are from Prudential, and have all sorts of insurance actuary titles, for determining rates, disability pay, etc. Hopefully nothing confidential is still on them...after 31 years I imagine insurance calculations are an entirely different beast. There is also an IBM DOS disc, plus one titled "Back Room Technician." The 1988 IBM catalog is both a great historical document as well as a source of humor...anyone up for a $12,000 home computer? Attachments extra of course.Condition is very good. The screen is clear and strong, and the contrast adjustment works properly. There is no yellowing of the exterior case, only a few minor scuffs from it being over 30 years old. The printer popped up the first time I pushed the button, but to get it to lock back in I had to press it back a couple times. The 1988 IBM catalog was smashed in the bag at one point, and thus a little wrinkled - but complete.
***TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT THOSE PHOTOS - any collector would be PROUD to own! I only have this one for sale, and once it's gone it is gone for good.***
Truly an excellent example of this RARE and EARLY machine! The computer works as described, but due to the age and nature of vintage electronics, I must sell as-is, as-found with no returns. However, it will be fully insured in case of physical damage or loss in shipping.
Please let me know if you have any questions. PayPal payment within 2 days, will ship to the Lower 48 states only. Shipping by carrier of seller's choice, with full insurance, and in a well-packed, sturdy box.
A little more on this historic computer from Wikipdeia:

TheIBM PC Convertibleis the firstlaptop computerreleased byIBM. Released on April 3, 1986, the Convertible was also the first IBM computer to use the3½-inch floppy diskformat which went on to become the industry standard. Like modern laptops, it featured power management and the ability to run from batteries. It was model number 5140.

Thanks for looking, good luck, and God bless!!
