Knoppix 3.4 5-10 Won't Shut off PC

It was okay with version 3.3 but now with version 3.4 5-10 installed to HD, my pc won't shut off. Just a blank screen but the pc is still running. Tried to load apm but I get "apm not supported by kernel".

What's wrong?

Tried solution on a similar thread-the "scsi=off noscsi" cheat code. No effect on my problem.Tried it on knoppix running from cd-still not shutting down pc .
