hello all i am new to Linux but am learning slowly, I am looking for a program to include in a version of Knoppix that will give me a full set of hardware and software diagnostic tools and allow me to diagnose and perform full system tests on a computer without haveing to worry if a OS is installed. Or if there is already one available just point me in the right direction.

thanks

For stress-testing from a custom live CD, I use folding@home, seti@home, memtest, and cpuburn. Memtest is now included on the newest Knoppix. There are also some disk benchmarks- bonnie++, dbench.....

You can download seti or folding into your home directory, chmod +x it, and then launch it, from any live CD.
