View Full Version : How to partition with QTPart

I am trying to re-partition my 40GB drive (already partition into 2x20Gb in windows 2K) with QTPart.

But the Create option of QTPart is grey out , meaning i cannot use it.
I have tried doing it with the HD mount and unmounted.

Does it mean that we cannot re-partition on an existing HD.


If we can repartition, how can i set Knoppix to use or recognise which partition is for the /, /home , /swap , /usr .

You have to resize the partition first to creat some free space.

Later, after you install, you need to copy over the /home, /swap, /usr, whatever to the desired partiton and cahnge the fstab

I did a partition and managed to get Knoppix in.

But after a few restart, the system cannot goes back into win2K (the original os). It cannot boot up!!!

Worst still, the recovery disk that comes with the pc is unable to reinstalled itself into the HD.

How can i reformat the entire HD and reinstall win2K ... and hopefully later Knoppix.

What might have happened is that you created a new (primary) partition before the one windows boots from, effectively shuffling partitions and possibly bumping the win partition number - hence the boot.ini needs to be adjusted. If you can mount your windows partition RW (fat OK, NTFS through native), you can do this yourself. The easiest is probably to use the windows recovery console (google for this...), but if you have one of those stupid "restore system" CD's instead of the MS vanilla media, I am afraid this might not be available...
