Knoppix wont display on DVI

I have an ati 9200 radeon, hooked up to an LCD display (via DVI port).

Anyway, during bootup, it looks great, but as soon as it loads X, and then KDE, my LCD monitor loses a signal and reverts to power save mode.

I hooked up an old CRT monitor to the VGA slot of the vidoe card (it has two ports: VGA and DVI, and an s-video too) and boom, its up and running and working great.

The problem is that I dont want this CRT monitor, but i dont know how to get it to defaultly use the DVI port instead of VGA, which it seems determined to do!

Sorry if this has already been covered, i have been searching the forum and googling for over an hour and a half.

Ok, after continued hour(s) of searching yesterday, it seems like I need to install the ATI video drivers, which i downloaded from ATI's website.

I learned a few things:
1) I don't seem to have alien or rpm installed (since neither one works from the command line). dpkg IS installed.
2) that wonderful kanotix installation script for ATI video cards works for everyone except me.

If anyone has an easy way to install the drivers, my god, would I be grateful.
