Edit files over the net

This feature maybe is unknown to someone (especially newcomers-windowers). Is the ability of linux text editors, such as kate and kwrite, to open/edit&save files over the net. I usually type this entry in Kate/File/Open.. to do the job:

ftp://username:[email protected]/file.html
