Problem booting a remastered 5.1

Hi,
I am trying to create a remastered version of Knoppix 5.1.
I followed the Howto (http://www.knoppix.net/wiki/Knoppix_Remastering_Howto), without making any changes to the file system except creating an empty file at the root, just to know my change worked.
when I am booting my iso image (vmware) I get some IO errors and theb kernel panic.
any idea what could be wrong?

I solved it.
the problem was either the fact that the file system I used for the files was ReiserFS, or that I I didn't have enough free memory.
after switching to EXT3 and giving the virtual machine that created the ISO 1.5gb of ram, the problem was solved.
