i want to make a remaster of knoppix, but i don't want to spend forever downloading .debs when i could just use my lenny 502 cds.

Debian doesn't have a "latest CD" and a "latest DVD" version, it has a Stable, a Testing and an Unstable version. Testing and Unstable change a lot, and while you can download all of the packages on CDs or DVDs iso format, if you have Internet access (and apparently you do), you would be far better off just doing a net install and installing what packages you want or need with apt-get. See the Debian website for the latest versions, a good place to start is here (http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/daily-builds/daily/arch-latest/i386/iso-cd/).

Unfortunately, Knoppix has always been a mix of the various Debian versions. That's what makes it so unsuitable for hard disk install and updating and installing other software, as soon as you apt-get update you tend to break things.

There should be a packages.txt file that comes with the torrent download (or I expect that you could find this file on most mirrors), that should identify what versions of the various packages are used.
