root-shell doesn´t open ??

I have just installed Knoppix 3.2 with knx-hdinstall on my Thinkpad 770X Laptop.

1. now i want to get closer to linus and so i try the installed programs. I found under k --> knoppix > the entry root-shell (i interpreted this like an odinary dos-shell under windows). when i click on this item i see that something works but no window or shell opens. Why ?? The same behaviour happens by other programs.

2. the soundcard in my 770x is recognized and installed but doesn´t function. I startet sndconfig and when the autodection fails i tryed some manual setting (without luck). I´m a real linux-newbie. How can i get my soundchip to work ?

I'm on my way out the door and I don't really know anything about your sound card anyway but...........

There are some apps that don't work- it's true. None the less open any shell and become root like so:

su
<password>

Now you have a root shell. Try searching for your soundcard model on google.com/linux and here at knoppix.net maybe you'll find the answer.
