I have a new Asus A7N266 motherboard and can't run X in Knoppix.
System:
AMD XP2000+
Asus A7N266 MB
256MB
using integrated peripherals, GF2, network card, sound,
Logitech USB wheelmouse
I can run in level 2, text mode, however when I try to run X the splash screen comes up, the sound works and the mouse curser moves. As soon as the system is initializing peripherals the computer locks up.
Any suggestions?

what´s your video card model?
have you tried the commands
fb1024x768
or
fb800x600
???
you can also check help to change the refresh rate..
ex.:
fb1024x768 vrefresh=60

I'm using the integrated video, audio and lan. The video is a Geforce2MX, the audio is detected as an Intel i810, and the lan is a realtek I believe. I haven't tried the fb commands but will.
Thanks

I found the answer, I had to change the legacy USB setting in the BIOS to disabled and now Knoppix loads X.
Hope this helps someone else.
Now to find MaryAnn for some help with the coconut radio I'm building.

Peace,
I found that booting Knoppix with the following commandline also works on the Asus a7n266-vm:
knoppix noapm dma
"noapm", turns off the advanced power management and "dma" switches on the Direct Mode Access for your ide devices...
I reached the conclusion that there is perhaps some form of compatability issues between mobo apm and knoppix. Haven't yet tried to disable legacy USB support. Will try that next and see if I can just do a simple "knoppix dma" boot....
Well, that's all for now, so...
Peace Be Upon You,
God Bless,
