Hi all, here's my issue.

at boot screen, (Yes i got that far) i type lang=us

after that it take about an hour of "i/o errors on sec 546623"

all the errors just go scrolling by and then nothing! no prompt nothing.

the system halts

i have tried booting with failsafe switch - crc error system halted

i have tried everything i have read. Any ideas before i use my cd as a frisbee??

Did you check the md5sum of the .iso you downloaded before you burned it? Those errors sound like a bad cd. If you burned at a high speed that might also cause some errors. Try burning at 8x or slower.

Rickenbacherus is giving you some good advice. Always check the md5sum of the iso. My only additional advice is that it isn't good enough to check the downloaded image. To get reliable results you also need to check the iso AFTER it has been burned to the cd. Just issue the following command to do this (it will take a little while):
md5sum /dev/scd0
