Boot problems.
I am having problems booting. Everything seems to go fine Knoppix detects all my hardware, network, then it goes to a black screen. No cursor, no nothing, just a black screen. I did check the cd i burned to and it was ok using the checksum. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

This is a VERY common problem. Let me guess- 32MB ram?
What cheat codes are you using?
Does the cd boot on any other machines correctly?
Post some system details if you need further assistance so we can help you with the cheat codes.

233 PII, 128 ram, 10 GB hard drive.
I am not using any cheat codes. And it did boot on a different box. one that is running same processor but only 64 mb of ram. On that machine it gave me the option of making a swap file, which I did, and it worked like a dream.

OK well that shoots the no-ram theory i the ass.
Enter your BIOS and disable APM (advanced power management)
disable PnP (plug and play)then type this at the boot prompt:
boot:failsafe <enter>
It won't try to detect all of your hardware and might just boot for you. If it boots then you can methodically eliminate the problem with cheat codes which can be found here:
http://www.knoppix.net/docs/index.php/CheatCodes
If that doesn't work then personally I would try this:
boot:knoppix lang=us noapic noagp noapm nodma vga=normal xserver=XF86_SVGA mem=128M <enter>
If it still won't work, get some info on your system, specifically: vertical & horizontal refresh rates, screen resolution, video card chip & amount of video ram. Then try this:
root:expert
Post back with results. -gluck :)
