Cannot format a floppy under Knoppix 3.6 ;(

I just can't. And my friends can't too. I've checked their version Knoppix and every earler than 3.6 could format. Is there something that I have to do?

how do you try to format it? and it IS unmounted right? if not unmount it and try again,
