starting network card
all versions of knoppix since 3.6 cant start my network card it says everthing is fine, but wen i look at my router the light is off and i cnannot connect to the net or local network.
The network card i have is built onto the mobo of my compaq 6350us.
also would a usb ethernet card work right in knoppix i have no availiable pci slots.
the router is a comcast cable gateway made by linksys its 54g

hello i donot have a linksys card i think its a realtek. if that even matters but ill check hte linksy website.

You have to know the hardware that you have, in your computer (specs), the right way to configure your card is, as "root" in a shell
modconf
there are a list of modules and drivers, push ppge-down until "kernel/drivers/net" and press ENTER
a new list (detailed) appears and you have to establish yor choice and pres ENTER again
there are some drivers for realtek hardware, but you have to know the spec of your machine (navigate with pg-up and pg-down)
