hey please help :( just 2 questions :(

hey well im verry new to linuix please dont be put of but i no alot about computer hardware ect and dabbing into c++ and java but i have two questions.

1.well ive downloaded and burned knoppix std and im a noob to linux so i didnt No what the hell to do i opend a shell and started trying to type but loads of errors occurd is this a more graphical and easy to learn version and if i wanted to lear more about linux where to go

2.my friend has forgoten his password so im trying to help him out (windows password) on knoppix std i tried to input code to get the sam and system files and put it on usb drive :( no luck error after error
so i heard this was a much easier version more graphical and i could just navigate to the sam and system file and copy and paste on a usb drive to put on a running windows pc where i have programs to decrypt the hashes and use brute force ect is this true thanks, help would be verry apriciated :)

please help man im trying to search but there so much i cant find it :( fine can you just tell me this
on knoppix can i open a explorer kind of box like windows and then just double click and naviate to windows/system32/config and get the sam file i want then copy and past on a usb drive thats all i want to know thanks
