booting live-cd

hey, borrowing a live cd off a friend to have a look.

trying to just boot right off the cd and it dosnt go n e where....

get a nice black screen with flashing cursor in the top left with cd drive activity ( the only good thing )

then boots back in to xp ( the very bad thing )

n e tips?

p.s : yes i have configured the bois to boot cd 1st.... and dling newiest knoppix iso. oh would it boot from a 8cm dvd-rw?

not to worry, downloaded new ios, got it burnt and not working on knoppix :D
