Hi all
Im a total newbie to using knoppix. After a problem with my pc i used the knoppix disk to transfer my files from my hard drive to an external hard drive.
now when I try to access my files from my hard drive on my vista laptop I get a message saying the files are courrupted. But the can be read when I am on knoppix. So how can I access my files with vista??

Well, we know nothing about that external drive. I'll guess it has been formatted with an NTFS partition. Here's my rule of thumb: Never ever write to a NTFS partition with Knoppix, or you will be punished. (Others claim that they can do it safely, but you and I can not.) This is what I would suggest doing now:
Reconnect that drive to the Knoppix system. Do not write to it again, mount it READ ONLY (the Knoppix default (for good reason)). On another Windows computer (perhaps even the one that you are trying to recover and have reinstalled a fresh copy of Windows (use XP, friends don't let friends use Vista)), install an FTP server. There are several free or trial version paid FTP servers that you can dowload from the web. Network the two computers together. Use Konquror under Knoppix as the FTP client to transfer the file to the other system, where Windows can safely write them to an NTFS partition. Tripple check all of the files. Just because you have file names in a directory does not mean that you have good uncorrupted files.
