Dell Mouse probe problem 01.01.02

I had no problems with the mid november release of Knoppix (Other than disabling pcmcia probing) , but with the 01-01-02 release, the touchpad on my Dell Inspiron 4100 (same HW as a Dell Latitude C610) goes nuts inside X. If I move my finger slowly it will follow ok, but if I start to speed up at all, the mouse will jump all over the screen clicking things at random. Using an external USB Dell/Logitech Optical mouse works fine.l

Hmm the 4-18-03 release (and all in between) still have this problem. Does anyone know what changed around november that would cause erratic synaptics touch pad under Dell laptops? I also tried a serial synaptics touch pad on this same laptop and it works fine, but if I touch the internal one, it jumps all over the screen again.

Could one of the moderators move this to the laptop area?
