Audio quirk in Knoppix 7.4.2 (and 7.3) DVD(s). . .
Just received Knoppix 7.4.2 DVD and noted that it has the same quirk on bootup as 7.3 DVD in that when audio starts it produces a repeating click in audio output every second. In 7.3, I discovered I could click "Logout" and then the sound would stop and I'd click "Cancel" to return to Knoppix. Not so in 7.4.2 . . .Any help to alleviate would be much appreciated . . . Thanks Here's a snippet of the current system I'm running on . . .microknoppix description: Desktop Computer product: PROD00000000 vendor: OEM00000 width: 32 bits capabilities: smbios-2.2 dmi-2.2 smp-1.4 smp configuration: boot=normal chassis=desktop cpus=1 *-core description: Motherboard product: 915P-ICH6 physical id: 0 *-firmware description: BIOS vendor: Phoenix Technologies, LTD physical id: 0 version: 6.00 PG date: 10/11/2004 size: 128KiB capacity: 448KiB capabilities: isa pci pnp apm upgrade shadowing cdboot bootselect socketedrom edd int13floppy360 int13floppy1200 int13floppy720 int13floppy2880 int5printscreen int9keyboard int14serial int17printer int10video acpi usb ls120boot zipboot virtualmachine *-cpu description: CPU product: Pentium 4 vendor: Intel Corp. physical id: 4 bus info: cpu@0 version: 15.4.1 serial: 0000-0F41-0000-0000-0000-0000 slot: Socket 775 size: 3200MHz width: 32 bits clock: 200MHz capabilities: boot fpu fpu_exception wp vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe nx constant_tsc pebs bts pni dtes64 monitor ds_cpl cid xtpr configuration: id=0 *-cache:0 description: L1 cache physical id: a slot: Internal Cache size: 32KiB capacity: 32KiB capabilities: synchronous internal write-back *-cache:1 description: L2 cache physical id: b slot: External Cache size: 1MiB capacity: 1MiB capabilities: synchronous external write-back *-logicalcpu:0 description: Logical CPU physical id: 0.1 width: 32 bits capabilities: logical *-logicalcpu:1 description: Logical CPU physical id: 0.2 width: 32 bits capabilities: logical *-memory description: System Memory physical id: 1b slot: System board or motherboard size: 2020MiB *-bank:0 description: DIMM SDRAM Synchronous physical id: 0 slot: A0 size: 512MiB width: 64 bits *-bank:1 description: DIMM [empty] physical id: 1 slot: A1 *-bank:2 description: DIMM SDRAM Synchronous physical id: 2 slot: A2 size: 512MiB width: 64 bits *-bank:3 description: DIMM [empty] physical id: 3 slot: A3 . . . description: Audio device product: 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) High Definition Audio Controller vendor: Intel Corporation physical id: 1b bus info: pci@0000:00:1b.0 version: 03 width: 64 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list configuration: driver=snd_hda_intel latency=0 resources: irq:42 memory:d0100000-d0103fffAnd, here's the output from hwinfo --sound11: PCI 1b.0: 0403 Audio device [Created at pci.328] Unique ID: u1Nb.Vw0lAkpcmi2 SysFS ID: /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0 SysFS BusID: 0000:00:1b.0 Hardware Class: sound Model: "Intel 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) High Definition Audio Controller" Vendor: pci 0x8086 "Intel Corporation" Device: pci 0x2668 "82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) High Definition Audio Controller" SubVendor: pci 0x1019 "Elitegroup Computer Systems" SubDevice: pci 0x1b71 Revision: 0x03 Driver: "snd_hda_intel" Driver Modules: "snd_hda_intel" Memory Range: 0xd0100000-0xd0103fff (rw,non-prefetchable) IRQ: 42 (705773 events) Module Alias: "pci:v00008086d00002668sv00001019sd00001B71bc04sc0 3i00" Driver Info #0: Driver Status: snd_hda_intel is active Driver Activation Cmd: "modprobe snd_hda_intel" Config Status: cfg=new, avail=yes, need=no, active=unknown
