Runnig knoppix from a CD at boot time ,I'm getting the error :"No Suitable X-Server found for your card", I tried all possible cheats without success, how can I resolve this problem?
I guess the Radeon 7000 is the reason for this error.
Thanks for help.
sa
I've never had a problem with radeon 7000 cards... :?
Hi stonent but I'm telling I hava problems with the Radeon 7000 card., and I'm still waiting for help.
sa
Well the card IS supported. It may be something else confusing it. Since you didn't give any other specs. I can't really give you much help
Also what version of Knoppix are you using (date?) I've been trying to read people's minds for years but it never works.
I'm using the last version 06.06.2003,I also tried all posssible cheats:ati,radeon,expert,vesa... with no results.what infos you still need I can give you.thanks
Are you using an ATI brand card or an ATI clone manufacturer such as Hercules etc.. ? Better yet, boot into text mode (knoppix 2) and do an lspci -n (paste the contents here, such as this:)
and then an lspci (like this):Quote:
lspci -n

I hope you find what's wrong.
thanks

have you tried knoppix fb800x600 or fb1024x768?
Also, I don't think your network card is supported straight off most of the knoppix CD's.
Another data point:
On a machine with one of these:
# lspci -n
01:00.0 Class 0300: 1002:5159
# lspci -v
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon RV100 QY [Radeon 7000/VE] (prog-if 00 [VGA])
Subsystem: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon 7000/Radeon VE
Flags: bus master, stepping, fast Back2Back, 66Mhz, medium devsel, latency 66, IRQ 11
Memory at f0000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M]
I/O ports at 9000 [size=256]
Memory at e8100000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K]
Expansion ROM at <unassigned> [disabled] [size=128K]
Capabilities: [58] AGP version 2.0
Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2
KNOPPIX correctly identifies the card, but uses the vesa server, producing an annoying 60Hz flicker. If I start knoppix with just xmodule=radeon, I get a refresh rate of 75Hz (this is with a monitor capable of 120Hz, BTW). I need to specify xmodule=radeon vsync=85 for optimal results.
Tested:
KNOPPIX V3.2 2003-07-26 EN
KNOPPIX V3.3 2003-09-24 EN
