Knoppix 3.3 wlan-ng

Any clues how to get wlan-ng (prism2_cs) working in 3.3 11/19/03? I modified symlinked copies of /etc/modules.conf (to alias wlan0 prism2_cs), /etc/pcmcia/config.opts (to bind my card to prism2_cs), and /etc/pcmcia/wlan-ng.opts, so prism2_cs loads automatically. It creates wlan0, but cannot bring it up. I can assign an IP to wlan0, but its HWaddr ends up all zeros (wlan0 shows up in 'ifconfig -a', but not just plain 'ifconfig').

Everything looks good with the default orinoco_cs, except that does not support WEP on my SMC 2632W. So I am trying to get wlan-ng working, which works with WEP in SuSE 8.0 (using external pcmcia with i82365 instead of yenta_socket).

I cannot tell if the yenta_socket is the problem because if I start knoppix with nopcmcia and configure it to use i82365 instead, that fails and it uses yenta anyway. Or manually bringing up the modules in the same order as /etc/init.d/pcmcia fails when I try to modprobe or insmod i82365 (device not found).
