Actually, if card companies had an interest in the development of a secure system, they can as well PAY me for a customization, which is just what some other companies do in order to get a modified Knoppix version. My business model does not rely on sponsoring or donations. And it's OpenSource anyways. :-)
But so far, no card company has attempted to cantact me.
