If your X11-resolution worked from cd, it should work from hd.
You could start from cd, and save the
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4
file to harddisk, and protocoll the drivers in use:
lsmod > module.protocol.txt
You may compare them with the results running from hd.
If you want to try with the x.log, you have to manipulate inittab:
/etc/inittab:
# changing out the old runlevel 5 (multiuser with network and x)
# id:5:initdefault
# to 4, multiuser with network, but without x
id:4:initdefault:
But I guess it's easier: cat /var/log/XFree86.0.log

Hello,
my problem seems to be solved! What I did is:
1. Genrate a new user with Kuser.
2. switch to another console (Ctrl-Alt-F1)
3. cd .kde
4. su (and enter the root-password)
5. chown -R user.group * (with user/group = my username/group, resp.)
6. chown -R user.group .*
7. exit (returns from root-whell to user-shell)
8. logoff and reboot
Since then KDE works.
Thus, let's pray that this state will last...
Greetings,
Messiaen
