Be sure your version of bittorent is 4.1.2-1...................
how i can check my version of bittorrent? or where i can download this version?
i use a kanotix-2005-03 pc to download the knoppix4.0-dvd-image.
my azureus client is version 2.3.0.4
can i download with this ?
all sorts of checksums like md5, sha1 and many more come with the torrent you download. just get the checksum files and check your download with them.Quote:

Running sudo knoppix-installer brings up the partitioning, and I set a 5.5gig EXT3 Primary Partition, and a 0.5 gig swap partition. I mark the EXT3 partition as Active. Save and then quit. And it recycles back to "Not ready to install..." and brings up the partitioning option. Nothing I do can make it get past that. I've tried formatting the partitions etc, and nothing works. Also tried it as SCSI virtual drive.
Everything looks the same as yours, but it just wont move past the partitioning.
FYI: I'm a computer programmer, have installed many versions of Linux, but VMWare and on actual machines. Have install Knoppix into VMware before as well.
Any ideas?
I used VMWare Workstation 4.5 & the latest 4.5 binary build from vmware.com on Windows XP Pro SP2.
If I recall correctly ... I set the new VM to use Linux (other Linux 2.6 kernel). Approx 256 MB of RAM for the VM. IDE not SCSI. I set the IDE HD to 15GB but instead of a dynamic growing virtual disk I chose to made it make pre-write out all 15GB & this took a couple mintues to write out all 15GB. Bridged networking. Everything else set as normal defaults. Before booting the the VM, I set the virtual DVD drive to use the Knoppix 4.0 DVD ISO file itself instead of using a real physical burned DVD-R. The only boot time cheat codes used was lang=us.
I hope this helps.
James
Since unionfs is used to generate the additional 2GB file in the "maxi" DVD 4.0, does this make the Unionfs-related file r/w as well as cloop compatible?

Hmm....XP Pro SP2 here as well, but using VMWare 5 Perhaps that's the issue....?
Hmm....everything else the same here. Other 2.6 Kernal, 256 (tried 384 as well), IDE and SCSI tries, 6 gig (trying 8 gig now), pre-created disk, booting from ISO.Quote:

very nice, but the boot-menus (when pressing <F2> or <F3>) are still in german aren't they?
Bye
Karl
Yes they are still in German. The F2 & F3 screens are just a simplified version of the following text file /Root-of-DVD/KNOPPIX/knoppix-cheatcodes.txt (also found at any Knoppix download mirror like http://debian.ams.sunysb.edu/knoppix...cheatcodes.txt) which is entirely written in English. So it is not necessary to edit or translate the F2/F3 portions of the ISO.Quote:

if you want, u can edit the message for f2 and f3 in the /isolinux folder
just copy and paste and make your own message for the knoppix boot up screen no hexedit or complex procedures required
Please explain how you intend to do this. In most cases a ISO is essentially a read-only medium. I can skirt around that by flipping bits (hexediting) the ISO. As far as I know, I can not simply copy & paste into new f2 & f3 files without creating a new ISO image or modifying the underlying ISO9660 filesystem.Quote:

ill explain this under windows (for the end-user)
use a program like isobuster, extract boot image (which should be isolinux.bin enclosed in the very first cylinders of the cd/iso)
extract everything
edit f2 f3 files
use a program like ultraiso and recompile them together, or under cygwin use mkisofs (follow exactly the steps explained in the remastering guide)
(recompile with isolinux in boot sector of cd)
burn iso
done
or even easier, use a program that can open the iso and edit it from there and save recompile
I am not shooting down your ideas to be annoying but I was just wonder if it could be done with either an existing Knoppix disc or with 100% Free tools. I know about remastering seeing as how I wrote a HOWTO on it. Not everyone knows about remastering or wants to remaster. Also not everyone runs windows either and of those that do, cygwin (a really awesome collection of utilities & GNU tools) may be too confusing for them. I have yet to try mkisofs on cygwin since I usually use windows to play games or run ssh to connect to a *nix box. For those just getting into Knoppix/Linux, remastering or reconstructing the ISO is probably too much too soon.Quote:

I was wondering why not myself, since you can use a program like WinISO to add and delete files from ISO images, without extracting them, and then save the result. In Linux, you can mount an ISO 9660 image, but it's read-only.Quote:

Knoppix 4.0 from LinuxTag set up to boot in US English and with QEMU 0.7.0 so it will autorun under Microsoft Windows as well...
Get it here: http://www.open-bits.org/details.php?id=2024&hit=1
Just curious why is nobody using something like bearshare or Emule to distribute the DVD what uses English as the default or the other version as well?
Why bearshare or emule? Is there something wrong with bittorrent?Quote:

Please see my post in customizing and remastering regarding the DVD customizing of isolinux.cfg in the DVD.Quote:

Speed, of course, depends on the speed of the site or sites that is sending the file, but if this is an overall true statement including for the Knoppix CD torrents then you're likely not using BitTorrent right. I've talked about how to set BitTorrent up in other threads, but It's straying far off-topic for a NEWS thread on Knoppix 4, so I'm not going to duplicate that information here. Just consider that there may still be things that you could learn and search the forums for recent mention of BitTorrent or research it more on your own.Quote:

Where knoppix 4.0 CD (iso, torrent, rar) can be found. I see everywhere DVD edition but no cd version. Maybe it wasn't released yet ??
Klaus has not released the CD version.....
Thanks for the info -- it wouldn't compile on my Kanotix/Debian Sid box, but it looks very interesting. Maybe it'll make its way into KDE and/or Debian.Quote:

ALL ALL=NOPASSWD:/bin/mount -o loop* -t iso9660* /home/*/.kisotmp/* ,/bin/umount /home/*/.kisotmp/*
DVD 4.0 still fails to customize isolinux.cfg after upgrade to k3b 0.12-2.
Report in customizing and re-mastering forum.
Yes. Got a bunch of compiler errors when running "make" with v0.8.2. Thanks for the link to the deb, I'll try it.Quote:

I finished downloading EN version but I am not sure about integrity, can someone tell me if this md5sum is correct:

Also what is the meaning of qemu-0-7-0 in release title?
Best ask someone about the md5sum at http://www.linuxtracker.org/torrents-details.php?id=411Quote:

Can't someone just make: md5sum filename ??
Perhaps or perhaps not. MD5 checksum is a way of fingerprinting files. Just like a real fingerprint identifies a single person, a MD5 checksum is unique and matches exactly one file. Do you know that the English plus qemu version is different ISO file as compared to the original 4.0 DVD ISO? I have not downloaded the English+qemu version & if I make a md5sum off of the original, it will only be appropriate for the original. Only those people who have downloaded the english+qemu version will be able to make the md5sum that you need. The guy who makes this english+qemu version is chris-uk and that link I post is his site. You can contact him or you can wait for some kind person to make a md5sum of the english version for you.Quote:

Unless you expect to get md5 sums from several people it would be best to get one from chris-uk. The good news is that unlike the mirrors that have a bad track record of delivering corrupt files, BitTorrent has it's own checksums built in and checking the md5 sum, while still a nice step, isn't really needed.Quote:

Are there any website that provide HTTP download for knoppix 4.0 DVD ISO ? :?
I tried to find it at http://knopper.net/knoppix-mirrors/index-en.html
but no one provide knoppix 4.0 DVD ISO. Where should I download it ? [/url]
