copied the contents of the Root_Of_NTFS folder to c:, edited boot.ini, overwrited contents of C:\BOOT\knoppix.381\ with Knoppix382.zip (cause i'm trying to run knoppix 3.9) and my c:\boot\grub\menu.lst looks like this:

But when i try to run this option i get "couldnt find knoppis system, dropping you into very simple shell"...
Any ideas why it happens?
p.s. i tried to do it with my portege 7020ct laptop (p2-366) and everything worked fine. But it has different partitions, including linux ones...

Just add a "/" and press "tab" and it will list you the directories available in the root of the hd0,0 (hda1) partition. Pick the directory where you have the iso, press "tab" and continue the autocompletion until you get the full path of the knoppix iso file. And then verify that this is the path that you have in your menu.lst, but the (hd0,0) which translates into /dev/hda1 and the *.iso (uppercase or lowercase depending on what you get from the grub autocompletion). You may also try to move the iso file somewhere else, like the root of your partition. Just as a test...Quote:

Sooo... i dunno :) It doesnt matter if i dont have any ext3/linux partitions, right? Cause i tried it on my desktop comp too and it didnt work. The only laptop where it worked was the one with ext3 and linux swap partitions :)
No it doesn't, unless you already have a /knoppix directory with a KNOPPIX big file somewhere on your disks/partitions, which you really would like to avoid since this path is some kind of hard coded in the linuxrc boot script and may confuse the iso boot method. I have knoppix to boot from the iso files on all the computers I get a chance to play with. This includes my T43 laptop with the iso file on a NTFS partition, my home computer with all kind of disks/partitions: sata, pata, scsi, fat16/32, ext2/3, ntfs, ... and my fat16 on a usb dongle which I tried on various systems.Quote:

Have been trying to follow the excellent instructions from the "Win Partition" topic, and seem to have run into an issue.
I have boot.ini edited to bring up grub, and that will start to load the Knoppix DVD, but then after it goes for a bit I get:

Looks like the path for the iso is wrong. Boot any version of knoppix of the cd/dvd and check the path for the iso file then update the menu.lst accordingly. It is better to keep the *.iso to avoid a typo in the filename. Linux path are case sensitive... Hope this helps. Let me know if it works for you. Best Regards, GillesQuote:
