Well - I'm really no expert. I've never heard about BitTorrent before it was mentioned in this thread above. I decieded to try it, because I have very limited bandwith (512/256 kb/s). As I understand it, BitTorrent ensures, that more people can gain.
How it works (as I understand it)
knoppix32.bin.torrent contains information, wich is used by btdownload to request the file from a daemon called bttracker on my system (listening on port 6969). The bttracker daemons gives information back about which other btdownload-clients currently is running downloading the file in question. The btdownload-clients are servers as well as clients. The trick is, that they can serve to upload the file in parts. It can therefore start serving after it has downloaded a very little part of the file.
In that way, all the clients are providing bandwidth to other downloaders. It is therefore advantageous, that you let your btdownload-client run - even after the download has completet, because it continues to serve as long as the client is running.
It is possible to restart the client, even after the download has finished.
Plese correct my mistakes - if any :-)
I downloaded a bit torrent file from: http://www.boegenielsen.dk/knoppix/ but it does not work "problem connecting tracker", is there another mirror/share for knoppix 3.2??
I had the same problem. Am currently using BT++. You can find it here: http://btplusplus.sourceforge.net/
Once we've been able to completely download the disc image (thanks so much for those who made it available!), what can be done before burning it that will make the CD default to our preferred language? I speak English, so that would be what I would have the most immediate interest in learning how to setup.
if its the same as v.31 then just type 'knoppix lang=us'. at the boot: prompt. im still dl'ing so i cant say for sure about this image.Quote:

I will have it in 5 Hours... yeah...
So... for those of you already installed it and played with it, was it worth the wait???
To the folks who already have it: PLEASE let your downloaders open also when the download is complete (you can also re-open the downloader and select the existing file as location). This way you help uploading with your bandwidth.
Yes, i i'm doing so now.. serving over 100 users on my 10 Mbps connection :-) with http-server, ftp-server, bittorrent :-)Quote:

Thanks a lot, Hans. This is great! :)
Ok, so using BitTorrent I got the new image and immediately booted it from my HDD with a bootflop...
There are a few nice editions to the applications for me, but other then that, it lacks a few things KnoppixKDE and MorphixKDE have...
Maybe Klaus is gonna change a few things before release on the mirrors ?!
(Fonts are sometimes not good; No XDisplay or Samba Configuration panel in the KDE control center; No autoplay on "hover" of mp3's browsing the LAN; minor things like that...)
This is excellent information. Is there any way (maybe by altering the disc image) to get it to automatically boot into English without any runtime commands (aka Cheat Codes)?Quote:

The customizing tool there does just what you're asking.
D'oh! Lesson learned. Thanks!
sure but just remember to remaster it to iso first ;)Quote:

Greetz,
I am trying to download the ISO as well. People are uploading from me at the same time. Lots of local bandwidth, but still slow on receive...
Well, now that I type, it just jumped from 2 where it's been for a while, to about 40KB/s! uploads same!
Clint
I'm downloading via BitTorrent as I type this and I've got a couple of quick questions for those who already have it.
I've heard that Knoppix 3.2 is based on a Debian Woody (stable) release rather than a testing/unstable like 3.1. Can anyone who's downloaded the .iso confirm this please?
Also, does the knx-hdinstall scipt included in this .iso work correctly?
Thanks in advance!
can't u just f***** wait for the official release?
Well, yeah, I COULD wait for the official release...but why should I? If there's a copy available now why shouldn't I download it?Quote:

No he can't because your no doubt leeching his and others bandwith
In what way, exactly?Quote:

Hi,
I'm downloading the Knoppix 3.2 with BitTorrent. This program is FAST
Max 60 Kb donwload, WOW
Thanx to the people sharing the .ISO
As cool as it is that I can get it now, I'm going to wait for the official release. I've waited this long, I can wait a few more days.
:D

I'm sure everybody can understand Klaus needs some sleep. But couldn't anybody else throw this thing on the mirrors? Hey, that's perhaps another *week*. And there are some people, as it seems, who want it from the official mirrors.
I just put the knoppix iso image in the edonkey (emule, mldonkey) network, here is the elink: ed2k://|file|Knoppix-3.2_from_CeBit-18-03-2003.iso|722808832|7091983943220C67420787BB26AEBD8 6
Cheers.
I found it on one of the official German mirrors !!!
http://source.rfc822.org/pub/mirror/...-cebit-rip.iso
I'm pulling it down @ 90kB/s or 720kbps :D
audioaficionado,
Thanks!
paul
Thnx Paul, now downloading with 2mb/s (!)
Hopefully this one (probably the same as the .bin version) will use my network card after HDD install....
It's a rip of what Klaus was handing out at CEBit 8)Quote:

kool,

If you have WinISO (on Windows if you still have it ;)), you can just open the ISO file and delete the boot.img and boot-DE.img .... after this just rename the boot-EN.img to boot.img and save the ISO... now you won't have anymore problems with German language...
MichielioZ,
I don't have WinISO. But I probably can dowload a trial. Thanks for the tip! I will give it a whirl tonight.
paul
wouldnt boot for me :(
It's buggy for me too. After the third boot try I got in.Quote:

(your 'shift+0) is the German placement of '=' on a us key board I found.
3) If you only get funny looking wavey lines then the default Xserver isn't working for your system. Try 'xserver=XFree86|XF86_SVGA' without the quotes one space after the 'knoppix lan=us'
'knoppix lan=us xserver=XFree86|XF86_SVGA' like this without the quotes of course.
It worked for me. This is a great looking distro once you get in.
Have fun :D
I am getting between 400 and 500 Kbytes per second... should have the entire iso in about half an hour. By the way, is this identical to the one available via Bittorrent?
