ok thank you I shall try that but I think it would be easy to simply reformat the entire drive yet i dont no how to do this

Open a console and type:

swapoff /dev/hdxy

---

that will unmount the swap partition so you can delete and reformat it. Or reboot knoppix cd and pass

knoppix noswap

---

to the kernel.
