BitTorrent does 'sha1' checking internally. If it says that you have a 100% download, then it's right.
(You can make it check again by re-downloading the torrent file from http://home.btconnect.com/chrisandcarolyn/torrents/ ; I promise you that's the one I put there; and re-running your torrent client)
Yes, all you get is an '.iso' . It is the original ISO, with a few files added (look in the qemu* directory) so that it carries its PC emulator, virtual BIOS, and virtual graphics adapter along with it so that it can 'autorun' under Windows. If you have an original CeBIT CD, you can use a file comparison tool ('diff' would work, after a fashion) to check what the changes are.
The tracker did a self-denial-of-service ... so many seeds all trying to contact it every 5 minutes used up all its bandwidth ... for a while. It should be back now.
i'd like to find or create some bootfloppies for knoppix 3.8 because i'd like to use it as a Xserver on an old laptop (p166,8MBram,800x600,ethernet...)
it's not my laptop so i can't write on the disc so i have to use a live cd
but it has not the capability to boot on cd
it was booting corectely with the 3.7 with floppiesdisc but in this distributions, i can't write on files las in the 3.8(for changing the config files of the X server) so i need knoppix 3.8
(the cd rom dont't even support rw cd lol)
is knoppix 3.8 out yet? if it is can you give me the link where i can download it from thanx
You can find the download link in the past pages of this thread.Quote:

It will work with 384MB of RAM but doesn't seem to run any faster than with 256MB of RAM.Quote:

Can someone tell me how to change the keyboard from german to american? Any other tips for an american user with limited knowledge of german? I'm reasonably comfortable with linux at the command line.

Recommended reading: There's a text file called "knoppix-cheatcodes.txt" both on the Knoppix CD itself, and on all the download mirrors (here, for example). Among other things, it will tell you how to change the keyboard layout from "de" (German) to "us" (American) and how to change the default language from "de" to "us". It even tells you how to type "=" using a German keyboard layout.Quote:

Does anyone know when (if) there will be an "official" release of knoppix 3.8?
I'd rather wait till then than use the CBit iso image to see if it includes kde 3.4.
Thanks
Soon.

Announcing KNOPPIX 3.8.1
In a few days, KNOPPIX Version 3.8.1 will be available on the mirrors. It's an update for the 3.8 Cebit 2005 Edition, featuring:
* Kernel 2.6.11 as default,
* write support for all virtual directories (i.e. live-installation of software without writable media is possible) in a running live system, made possible through UNIONFS,
* native Support for ipw2200 (Centrino2) WLAN chipsets,
* permanent homedirectory on harddisk (even on NTFS),
* KDE 3.3.2, Gimp 2.2.4, OpenOffice 1.1.4 and many updates,
* Wallpaper and bootscreen graphics design by newthinking communications.
To get KDE 3.4 at this point, you either have to build it or use the development debs which are not quite complete and not built from a release candidate version of 3.4. That;s why you won't see it in the initail official release of Knoppix 3.8.
But its fine to demo it from some of the cebit remasters that are surfacing.....
Alas, I'm very eager to try it out and keep asking myself how much "a few" is.Quote:

Try PrometeusXV - very nice distro with kde 3.4 - Kurumin's derivative.
Indeed, at the moment "a few days" certainly exceeds a week :(Quote:

these few days are near two weeks!
so my question is: WHEN?
hi blue.
what would the line in my sources.list look like to dl kde3.4 from that debian source :?:
3.8.1 is NOW available from the mirrors!
And there was much rejoicing.
Which mirror are you talking about? Could you post a link here?Quote:

Ok, it's available from a mirror:
ftp://ftp.uni-kl.de/pub/linux/knoppi...5-04-08-EN.iso
Got it! Thanks guys!
Finally, it is happening!
OK guys, I have noticed one irritating thing. During Knoppix boot phase an error message is displayed saying that a directory to evdev.ko module does not exist. Is it normal? Can you see this message as well?
After remaster this version 3.81 no boot errors,to fix the strange fonts in installer and box dialogs
apt-get remove xfonts-artwiz
Fix for nvidia driver
apt-get install kernel-kbuild-2.6-3
rm -f /usr/src/linux
rm -rf /usr/src/linux-2.6.11
ln -s /usr/src/kernel-headers-2.6.11 /usr/src/linux
ln -s /usr/src/kernel-kbuild-2.6-3/scripts /usr/src/kernel-headers-2.6.1/scripts
Now Knoppix 3.81 works fine @ Brazilian Portuguese

To install them, add this line to your /etc/apt/sources.list:Quote:

I've tested Knoppix 3.8.1 and it's absolutely INCREDIBLE!. I've compiled and installed a new program (mplayer), modified KDE preferences and various apps options, added a new background...and only creating a persistent home directory and saving preferences in a 128 mb USB disk, when you reboot it detects ALL automatically! It's like having my own computer in a CD+USB drive everywhere! (That remembers me...I've to buy an 1 GB USB drive :D)
Thx for this FANTASTIC distro, and keep up the good work!
Does this version have support for NTFS filesystem? Somehow it seems to me that captive is not included in this version. Could anyone verify this? If there is not NTFS write support, is it enough to apt-get captive-installer-knoppix and captive-ntfs-knoppix?
Thanks
Yes, but apparetnly creating files on NTFS is still dangerous, so, as before, it's pretty much read-only support.Quote:

No. The kernel is apparently not patched to support the LUFS module and there is no installation candidate available for any captive package (despite the dpkg output).Quote:

Try Kanotix instead, it's got captive installed. Or, an alternative is to install the captive package manually and use the "captive-cmdline" program
I just downloaded 3.8.1 and it looks great and runs perfectly on my Athlon 1800 system. I was surprised to see that the "install software while running from CD" was dropped. It was nice to install the nVidia driver, Macromedia Flash etc. I could not find this feature. Is it hidden in another menu?
Thanks
Captive from the link you provided will help me. Thanks eco2geek.Quote:

is it possible that knoppix sees my modem like a sound card???? i can see this from file /proc/asound/card0/id
now it work if i execute alsaconf every time after KDE is loaded, but i can't believe that i must always execute this script....Quote:
