Strange problem, I downloaded knoppix version 3.8.1 and am using this PMI guide to load knoppix off of my NTFS partition but when 3.8 loads the mouse doesn't to work at all. Works fine in 3.6 and 3.7 but with 3.8 it just won't move.

i'd suggest does the com ports or PS2 port show in the
lspci
list ?
not that they didn't work before, but does the newer kernel show them correctly ?
hehe... me mouse actually stopped moving... i found out the problem, me cousin started to play around with it (he is 3 years old... cant blame him), and well... (god knows how) changed the mouse settings...
so, make sure your mouse has the correct settings... is it a standard mouse?
Standard USB Compaq mouse(come with most models of the compaq computer.) Like I said it works with knoppix 3.6 and 3.6 but fails to do anything in 3.8.1.
Try booting with "knoppix noapic", does that make a difference?
Nope, infact after using that command i got an error about nto finding the knoppix filesystem.
Forgot to mention that I was using grub to boot knoppix, but an update. It seems that I missed this error popping up "modprobe:FATAL:could not read 'lib/modules/2.6.11/kernel/drivers/input/evdev.ko: not a directory.". Any idea on what this might be?
Redownloaded knoppix, Got rid of the previous errors i was getting and now is telling me that it has detected a compaq corp mouse but it still does not move! someone please help.
If its a harddisk install try doing this:-
apt-get remove gpm
Then restart X.
This is not a full harddisk install, just booting from an image file.
Still cannot use the mouse, can someone help me? I would really like to get knoppix working before the end of this weekend.
This implies to me that you're likely runnig a hard disk install? Is that correct? Does the mouse work fine if you boot a Live CD, just not work from hard disk? If so, is there a reason why you posted this in the General Support forum rather than in the HDD install forum where it might reach more people who have more experience with the folly of hard disk installs?Quote:

I also had this problem a few times, and now it's fine. When the mouse wasn't responding, I switched the shell and went back into window mode (ctrl alt F*). Then it started working.
