    Why doesn't Knoppix use rsyslog?

    Appears not to.
rsyslog writes some files in /var/log/ folder such as:
    auth.log
    syslog
    daemon.log
    kern.log
    user.log
    and so on.

None of the files are available. But rsyslog package exists.
