resolution problems

ive had knoppix for a couple days and i am in the process of working out the final kinks- i have an hdd install, my problem is that my video resolution on the hdd install is only 1024x768(thats the max it lets me put), but wen i boot it off teh cd with a cheat code, i get teh desired resolution, i tryed copying the xfree86 file off the ramdrive to my partition, it did not work, is there anyway to set the cheat code for teh hdd install? (i think teh hdd install autoconfigs everything at bootup) if anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated

I noticed that with mine too. My max is 1600x1200 and I can only get 1024x. Perhaps this is a driver issue? I know that Knoppix isnt using the correct drivers (its using a cyberblade driver which is pretty close to the real thing), but I've been too lazy to install the real drivers.

Try typing knoppix screen=1280x1024 depth=24, replacing the resolution with whatever is wanted. Press f3 at boot prompt for other cheats.

In /etc/X11/XF86config-4

Find the "screen" section
Make sure that the display subsection whose depth matches your defaultcolordepth has the resolution you require at the beginning.
So it might be:
Modes "1600x1200" "1400x1050" "1024x768" "640x480"

PS. Make a backup of the file before you start to ensure you don't completely bust it in error.
