Help with CD detection on a laptop

I'm trying to run the LiveCD on my old laptop. It boots from the CD fine, but then detects the CD drive as hdc and starts searching for a CD drive at cd0, which doesn't exist.

What can I tell it at the boot prompt that will make it look for a cd drive at hdc?
