    ftp site...is it updating?

    The knoppix mirror ftp site:

    http://mirror.usu.edu/mirrors/knoppi...=ACCEPT+%3E%3E

    gives:

    Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /mirrors/knoppix/ on this server.
Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Updating with 3.2 maybe??!?!

Is that procedure in the terms of the GPL?
Inform the press first and let the users wait?
Is that the new mind of the community that we need to beat the commercials?
    What i ment was:

    1. according to the gpl, the iso can be redistributed ets. no LEAGAL problem.
    2. klauss wanted to upload the iso AFTER cebit, we should respect that because, afterall, it IS his creation.
    3. it could be cebit branded.
    4. this edition might not be gpl. do YOU know it's gpl?

the leagal terms just make up the framework. respect and humal values should come before that imho. isn't that the whole point of the open source movement?

    just my 2c though.

    cheers

    1. Sure, itīs his creation, partially.
In fact itīs mostly a collection of software programmed by different people.

    2. Why should it be "cebit branded"? Whatīs the big difference between Version 3.1 and 3.2? Sure, he got KDE 3.1 inserted but it was also in KnoppixKDE. And persistant home is useless if you got only NTFS-Partitions.

    3. I donīt know if itīs under the GPL.

I think the point is that software should be free too everyone at every time. No one should get software earlier because of a trade fair.
If itīs a preview or beta version than i can understand that you donīt release it. But holding back a stable version is IMHO not the way open-source should work.

Klauss can post it any time he wants AFAIC. It's his creation an he has the right to time it's introduction into this world. Maybe he's timing will result in more publicity and demand for his creation/product and maybe some revenue stream to help support him and his software development efforts.

OTOH I sure wish he'd hurry up and post it to a mirror server yesterday

I've checked several mirrors and they all are still frozen @ v3.1

I wish we could at least see the changelog.txt file for 3.2
Unless I missed it and it is posted somewhere?
    Anyone know?

If it doesn't have the updated PH, you won't be able to write to the HD without a lot of hassle. Maybe as root but not user knoppix.
