need help!

hi,
I am a newcomer to linux. i just downloaded the v3.4 iso image. when i use it, the machine boots off the cd, but then, it says:
"probing scsi...aic7xxx.0" and it hangs.

what's going on?? i'm using a dell laptop inspiron 2650.

what do i do?

use the noscsi cheatcode at bootup

i tried using the "noscsi" cheatcode. but the same thing happens. any other ideas??
