I need a to make a bootable linux distro that autoruns a script on bootup.

I'm currently using INSERT bootable distro, since it supports XFS. Can someone give me tips and/or tricks on how to modify a bootable distro to run a simple shell script on startup? I want to make a bootable password changer as well as logfile cleaner (for when /var/log fills up).
