Xandros Open Circulation Edition v2.01 is a (mostly) free Debian-based version of Xandros' easy-to-install, easy-to-use Linux distro.

The catch:
- It requires you to agree to a license that says it's free for non-commercial use only. (And the download's only free using BitTorrent.)

What looks good about it:
- Comprehensive download instructions (that could even help with some of the questions frequently asked in this forum). Tells you how to download, check, and burn the CD from within Windows and Linux.
- Comprehensive Getting Started Guide.
- Installer is able to resize NTFS partitions.
- User interface hides a lot of complexities from the end user (which may or may not be good, depending on your point of view), making this a good candidate for a Linux newbie. (This is especially apparent in the file manager and the package manager.)
- Paid help and free help (through user forums) is available.

(I have no interest, financial or otherwise, in Xandros; it just looks good -- and installing it was a cinch.)
