Install under VMWare

I tried to install Knoppix 3.4 (rev. May 17, 2004, EN) into VMWare Workstation 4.5.2.
Install completes successfully, but after reboot I receive kernel panic, cannot mount root partition on both kernels (2.4 and 2.6)

My VM configuration:
128Mb RAM, 6Gb SCSI0:0, IDE CDROM, NIC NAT.

Knoppix 3.3 (20040216 EN works perfectly both in VMWare and on my HDD)

My guess would be that VMWare creates the primary HD as a SCSI drive & not an IDE drive. Modify your VM and use a virtual IDE drive instead of SCSI.

^ your guess was an excellent guess! i did created a virtual IDE drive and followed the HDD install in the other threads and everything went smoothly..

another question, why is it that it works if the drive is an IDE drive?
