Got something for you to try out Brite. I wish I had a USB 1.0 something so I could try it myself. Anyway....... try adding this to
your /etc/modules.conf after the line that reads
#Name inconsistency in 2.4 kernel series
alias usb-interface usb-uhci

and of course.......let us know.
