n00b: dvd drive "gone" buut worked 2 days ago

i was trying to get some help in the hdd install forum, and, for noappearent reason, i can no longer see or use my DVD drive.

what do i need to look for, find out, or do to get it back? it *should* be hdc but its not anywhere to be found

yes, it is plugged in, yes its got power to it. it shows as hdc when its booting up, but its gone now and i dont recall anyone asking me to do anything that should have changed it

Can you mount it? mount /dev/hdc /mnt/point I have no idea what mount points exist on your box so I just suggest /mnt/point as an example. Of course you'll need to have a data disc in the drive to mout it not an audio cd.
