No idea. Not a KDE user myself. Try:

apt-cache search kwin

Maybe you find what you want there. kdelook.org is also a good place for all things KDE. It would really be a better idea to start your own thread however so it gets seen.

I was sucessful with the compile after:

ln -sf /usr/src/linux/include/asm-i386 /usr/include/asm

I did it /usr/src .

The wierd thing now is my KDE menus are a bit psychedlic and unclear to read.

Do I need to dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86?

Or did I seriously stuff something up during the compile?

Your problem seems to be with the Knoppix kernel as it makes no difference whatsoever if you use a symlink or not. Do yourself a favor and install a distro that was meant to be installed. (like Kanotix) Knoppix certainly was not meant for such duty as it is a live cd only and makes for a very hard to upgrade system not to mention the many threads just like this where users suddenly cannot do something as simple as compile a kernel! It just makes no sense.

Hm. Amusingly, I found this thread through google after installing from the actual Debian installer cd and finding the exact same problem described here.
