customizing knoppix, how to add modules?

Is there a "how to page" out there that describes how to customize
the knoppix distribution? To be more specific I would like to turn a
spare linux box into a diskless linux router running the zebra package.

I am thinking that it would be possible to:
-unpack the knoppix iso image onto disk
-remove some unnecessary packages (all the x stuff for example)
-add the zebra package
-alter conf files as necessary
-repack the image and burn it to cd

Has anyone out there done this? any suggestions/how to pages?
