Multiple problems installing Knoppix

I tried the 'knoppix-install' at the root promp, this takes me to the installer, but I am unable to partiton my HD because i et the "open disk read only - you have no permission to write" error. I can't change the read/write settings of my HD becasuse they do not show up on the desktop for some reason. The HD is mounted, but it just doesn't appear on the desktop.

Have you used cfdisk on the mounted hdd?

The HD is mounted...

unmount it and retry.

example:

umount /dev/hda2
